General Characteristics: This is an entry level drafting position with no previous experience necessary. You will receive on the job training to learn AutoCAD®, specialized tools, and terminology to pursue a career in the design field.  You will learn how to use AutoCAD, basic drafting rules, annotation guidelines, and be exposed to 3D modeling and design.  You will gain critical skills to perform basic redline drafting of Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Block Flow Diagrams (BFDs), Plot Plans, General Arrangements, Sections and Details, and other mechanical drawings used in the industry. Supervision with specific and detailed instructions from the supervisor for day-to-day projects. This position reports directly to the Drafting Team Leads/or Design Manager, Process and Mechanical.

Responsibilities:

  • Learn to be efficient with using AutoCAD®.
  • Must learn CADWorx P&ID® built-in and Kahuna developed functionality.
  • Learn and develop a basic understanding of P&ID symbology.
  • Gain the ability to do basic 2D drafting utilizing AutoCAD® and CADWorx P&ID® pre-developed tools.
  • Required to learn Kahuna and client specific drafting standards.
  • Responsible for drawings to have a professional appearance.
  • Required to accurately capture redlines assigned by engineers, design manager or others.
  • Responsible for accurate back check of individual work against redlined documents.
  • Establish working relationships to maintain a positive and productive work environment internally.
  • Demonstrate basic understanding of workflow from beginning to end of a project.
  • Demonstrate ability to functionally communicate technical and administrative project/task details, including correspondence via emails and general documentation.
  • Organize and prepares drawings for delivery while maintaining security and confidentiality in a timely manner.
  • Must be willing to be flexible with your schedule to meet deadlines. 
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Must be a motivated self-starter with initiative, drive and can work both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Must be detailed oriented and precise.
  • Solid organizational skills required; must be able to prioritize and multitask.
  • High School diploma or equivalent required and/or community college drafting/CAD courses or previous experience with CAD is a plus but not required. Kahuna is willing to train the right candidate and cultural fit for our organization.
  • Strong computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD® 2-Dimensional drafting preferred, but not required. Knowledge of AutoCAD® 3-Dimensional drafting is preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to take direction and learn standards.
  • Mechanically inclined with a basic understanding of, or curious about, how things work.
  • Familiar with blueprints, electrical diagrams, house plans, and other drawings helpful.
  • Ability to visualize a two-dimensional drawing in three dimensions is a plus.
  • Desire to continually learn, ambition to proactively address challenges, and aspiration to be a quality team play is highly valued.
