Title of Position: Staff Engineer II, Structural

Position Type: Full Time

Pay Range: $70,000-$95,000

Location: Westminster, Colorado

General Characteristics: Proactively perform more advanced technical structural engineering support for midstream oil and gas projects with limited guidance from experienced structural engineers. Project assignments will include engineering, design and project management tasks for large facility foundation and steel systems. Will report to Director, Civil and Structural Engineering & Design.

Required Skills:

  • Able to independently document and layout more complex foundation and steel system designs using pre-developed tools with some direction from experienced engineers, and then review drawings and markup as necessary to represent a functional design.
  • Broad understanding of foundation types/steel shapes and correct application of them.
  • Broad understanding of industrial components & equipment.
  • Broad understanding of ACI, ASCI, ASCE, IBC, PIP codes, and ability to apply these correctly and efficiently with some guidance from experienced engineers.
  • Able to independently document and layout more complex structural system designs using pre-developed, and then review steel and rebar shop drawings - marking up as necessary to represent a functional design.
  • Able to independently build a more complex structural system model utilizing RISA, MathCAD and/or LPILE from project and equipment drawings, and perform pipe rack, foundation and pipe support analysis proactively seeking consensus from other experienced engineers and P.E.’s.
  • Able to summarize structural study results using Kahuna report templates, draw conclusions and make recommendations, and propose template modifications if necessary to suit project circumstances.
  • Able to independently assemble and track bid tabulations for contractors and make purchase recommendations suitable to project circumstances.
  • Demonstrate ability to functionally communicate technical and administrative project/task details through strong yet concise sketches, including correspondence via reports, emails, and general documentation.
  • Participation in communication with field personnel through RFI responses reviewed by experienced engineers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Civil Engineering (Structural Specialty preferred).
  • Taken and passed Fundamentals of Engineering Exam.
  • Strong work ethic and willing/able to travel to field project locations as necessary.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills as well as attention to key prioritized details.
  • Self-motivated and able to quickly react to changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Has become proficient at the responsibilities required for Staff Engineer I, Structural.
  • Self-manage workload.
  • Demonstrate improvement in technical writing, including team and client communication of details appropriate to the audience.
